Stewart-Haas Racing announced Tuesday that it will be shutting down after the 2024 season. This will leave all four charters up for grabs, and hundreds of employees will be left looking elsewhere for new jobs.
While this news is tragic and disappointing, I don’t think we’ll see a more motivated group perform than this four-car stable and I want some betting action on them. Before we dive into the numbers and see how we can bet SHR moving forward, let's break down Gateway as a whole.
Sunday will mark the third year the Cup series will race at Gateway. The track is essentially a hybrid of New Hampshire and Phoenix, so I’ll be targeting drivers who run well at those tracks.
The Predictor vs. The Books
The Professor has a new face on top of the Predictor, Martin Truex Jr., followed by your season-long favorites, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, and Ryan Blaney.
Tier 2 has Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell, and Kyle Busch. Do the books agree?
Denny Hamlin (+550) is the favorite, followed by Kyle Larson (+600) and a trio of drivers at +850; William Byron, Ryan Blaney, and Martin Truex Jr.
My favorite bet on the board is Denny Hamlin Top 5 at (-120). It’s cashed in four straight races, and six of his seven Top 10s this year have been Top 5s as well.
Josh Berry, Noah Gragson, OR Chase Briscoe TOP 10 (+250)
Here’s how I’m backing Stewart-Haas Racing this weekend. Each of these three drivers has had a string of good runs and Top 10s this year. Gragson had a run of three straight Top 10s end just a few weeks ago, Briscoe has had three Top 10s in the last 10 races, and Berry has quietly averaged a finish of 11.6 in his last five races
.
Briscoe has a win at Phoenix in the past and is sneaky good at these types of tracks, so I lean his way more than the others. However, if there’s a driver/crew chief combination I’d love to back in this horrible situation, it’s Rodney Childers and Josh Berry.
BONUS Play - Alex Bowman - Top 10 (+150)
This man is on FIRE. Eight Top 10s in his last 10 races and five Top 10s in a row. The rule of thumb with a streak like this is to keep riding it until it doesn’t hit for two weeks or unforeseen circumstances.
The value we continue to see on Bowman is crazy, I would even sprinkle a little bit on Bowman to win (+4000). He will win at some point this year, let’s hope we’re on it when it happens.
