Door Bumper Clear: Repaves and Running Interference

by Bobby Markos

The waters of NASCAR are choppy with plenty o’ drama this week, and the Door Bumper Clear crew is in the center of it all as usual. Brett joins Casey, Freddie and TJ this week via Zoom from his son’s baseball camp in Columbia, South Carolina to break down the happenings:

  • Major news out of Atlanta last week was the plan to repave and reconfigure the long running speedway by narrowing the racing surface and adding increased banking in the turns. The DBC gang reacts to the drivers who are voicing their disapproval and their desire to be consulted in changes made to the series’ raceways.

  • Rumors have been circulating about the safety tests of the Next Gen car and whether it will be completely ready for the 2022 season. Drivers like Denny Hamlin feel they are being left in the dark and their questions have gone unanswered by NASCAR. DBC weighs in on the talk around the garage regarding the matter, and Freddie even goes out on a limb (it’s really a tree) with a prediction about the new car next season.

  • While battling for the lead in Sunday’s Atlanta Cup race, the Busch brothers came upon Kurt’s Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Ross Chastain in lap traffic, and Chastain became a factor by seemingly blocking Kyle and allowing Kurt to close in for the lead. Kyle made mention of the move from Chastain in his post-race interview, making it out to be more than “just one of them racin’ deals”. DBC offers their unique perspective from the spotter’s stand on whether teammates helping teammates is an acceptable part of racing.

  • Friday night saw the Truck series making their debut at the famous Knoxville Raceway in Iowa, the Sprint Car Capital of the World. The contentious race saw many cautions and a massive pile-up in the waning laps which left many questioning the decision to move the series to the track in the first place. The crew debates leaving Eldora Speedway for Knoxville and the driving practices of the younger truck racers.

  • Jeb calls in with a new song on Reaction Theatre, and the gang find some common ground on this week’s “What An Idiot” segment.
