Kasey Kahne Dives Deeper Than Ever Before About Hard Wrecks That Resulted In A Concussion

Up until recent years, concussions weren't as widely studied and discussed in NASCAR. When drivers hit a wall hard they would describe it as "getting their bell rung" or say "Man, that was a hard lick." It wasn't until drivers, like our very own Dale Earnhardt Jr., were getting sidelined with concussions that people within the NASCAR industry started using it in regular conversations. Our guest Kasey Kahne looks back on the times when he realized that he had wrecked hard enough to suffer a concussion. NASCAR fans might remember the interview he gave after the 2013 NASCAR Cup Series race in Loudon, New Hampshire where he slapped the inside wall of the racetrack and couldn't remember what happened. He later admits that he even found himself zoning out while driving a passenger car well under the speed limit. Hearing his story shows just how hard it was to diagnose, treat, and understand concussion symptoms - but modern medicine has brought us a long way since then. Kasey Kahne Details The Reason Why He Stepped Away From NASCAR

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reunites with longtime motorsports fan favorite Kasey Kahne to learn about what he has been up to since his last appearance on the Download in 2018. After making the difficult decision to step away from NASCAR Cup racing later that season due to health reasons stemming from dehydration, Kasey has reemerged as a full-time sprint car racer in the last few years, competing with the World of Outlaws and High Limit Sprint Car Series. Kasey remains active in the NASCAR peripheral though, as he was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023 and he recently announced he’ll be returning to Xfinity Series competition with Richard Childress Racing at Rockingham this year. Kasey explains to Dale how the deal came together through Keith Rodden and partners like Rick Hendrick and Mike Curb. After finding success in the initial test at the track in January, Kasey is ready to approach the race weekend like he did when he first entered full-time NASCAR racing. Kasey enlightens Dale about the ins and outs of the sprint car racing world, which he describes as fast-paced and extremely competitive. He also places himself back in his Cup career and talks about the mindset of going from a successful team like Hendrick Motorsports to a mid-pack operation like Leavine Family Racing. Dale and Kasey share insight into how their respective short-track racing teams operate and how their families being at the track helps distract them from getting too caught up in the pressure of succeeding. The guys also discuss on-track feuds, head injuries, car safety, and Kasey’s path to NASCAR stardom. What Would It Take For A New Manufacturer To Join NASCAR?

The Daytona 500 is upon us, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. is back in the studio for a new episode of Dirty Air. He and co-host TJ Majors break down the latest NASCAR developments and look ahead to the Great American Race. They discuss NASCAR’s stance on race manipulation, the possibility of new OEMs entering the sport, and the France family’s willingness to sell some equity. Plus, they dive into NASCAR’s international expansion efforts, recap the 2025 Cup roster changes, and welcome Bowman Gray Clash winner Chase Elliott to the show. During the Ask Jr. segment, listeners had some fun questions for Dale and TJ, including how to handle producers talking in your headset during a broadcast and a thought-provoking one—if you didn’t know the day you were born, how old would you say you are? ___________________________ More on FanDuel: • Visit Fanduel.com/dalejr to download the app and bet with FanDuel – Official Partner of Super Bowl LIX.   • Must be 21+ and present in select states (for Kansas, in affiliation with Kansas Star Casino) or 18+ and present in D.C.
